Semana Santa procession, Alcaudete
A throne and Roman legionnaires during a Semana Santa procession in Plaza Constitucion, Alcaudete (Jaén) 2018. I find it interesting how different the vibe of these processions is in different towns. In Sevilla, it is very serious and sombre; however, in Alcaudete it has more of a Carnival feel with children taking part.

Semana Santa - the way it was.
The streets are eerily quiet this year. There are no Holy Week processions. Remembering how it was 30 March 2018 in Sevilla.

Semana Santa
It's such a shame that there are no Semana Santa processions this year. I would like to share some photos from previous years. This one was in Sevilla.

Plaza de España, Sevilla
Located in the Parque de María Luisa, in Seville, Spain, the Plaza de España was built in 1928 for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929. What a beautiful place. I have visited it three times, and I will visit many more!

Abandoned cortijo
Another one! There are loads in Andalucia. Mostly dilapidated and beyond repair. It's a shame because most of them are in a great location with a wonderful view. The only drawback is they are very isolated, so no mains services. Probably why they are abandoned!

Streetlight
Spain seems to have a thing about streetlights. Many are olde worlde and ornate. This one is in Alcaudete. They may look old, but they all have modern LEDs (there is no bulb) and aren't a harsh blue light either. They are colour balanced and emit a nice soft yellow glow.

Remote
The great thing about living in a remote village in Andalucia is that you are, well, remote! Certainly makes a change from commuting and working in London. I know which I prefer!

Abandoned corijo
Another abandoned Cortijo in Andalucia. This one, however, looks like it will be restored. The grounds have been cleared and the more dilapidated bits have been demolished. It's a location with lovely views. It will make a nice house.

Old roof-tiles
Traditional Spanish roof-tiles with lichen and moss. The way these tiles are arranged, I would be amazed if this roof doesn't leak!

Malaga beach on a winter's evening
It's amazing how different it is in the winter. There are no crowds of people; it's wonderful to enjoy a quiet stroll on a nice winter's evening. And you can always stop off at one of the many seafront cafes or restaurant in the port area...

Viboras reservoir
Nestling amongst the olive groves next to Las Casillas de Martos (seen in the photo) is the Víboras Reservoir. Built in 1997, the reservoir is a popular recreational spot and for fishing. The annual Cross Pantano del Viboras run (around March) follows the perimeter of the lake, a distance of 14.5km.

Castillo de la Encomienda de Víboras
Castillo de Víboras is located near Martos, next to the Sierra Caracolera, on a dominant rocky mound on the right bank of the Víboras river. Its construction originates from the ninth century. Although it is not the highest point in the area, it dominates the local landscape and can be seen from afar. I often walk my dogs in the area and wonder about its history.

The olive farmer's track
There is a maze of tracks through the olive groves in Andalucia used by the olive farmers. Most are just dirt tracks, some of the main ones are asphalted. The views and scenery are often wonderful. They make great dog walks! You can wander around for hours!

Spring flower
This time of year in Andalucia, as soon as the temperatures rise a little and some rain falls, Spring starts in earnest. Everything comes to life. Trees blossom, flowers grow; life restarts after the winter. It's a beautiful time of year! This flower is very small and delicate. If you know what it's called, please let me know. Shot on Ilford HP5 film with Nikon FE2.

Almond blossom amongst the olives
I took this photo from the Via Verde near Alcaudete. The Via Verde is a network of disused railway tracks, which have been converted into paths for walking and cycling. Wonderful!
